Michael Hawkins Named SunTrust 2014 Distinguished Leader of Merit

April 4, 2014 - Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business today announced that full-time MBA student Michael R. Hawkins has been named this year's SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit. Tom Kuntz, President and CEO, SunTrust Bank, Florida (Retired), presented Hawkins with the award during a Rollins MBA Center for Leadership Development ceremony last night. Hawkins will be recognized again for his achievement at the commencement ceremony on May 3, 2014. In addition to Hawkins, Crummer students Ray Allen Vincent and Ang Li were named SunTrust Leaders of Merit.

The SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit award is the top honor given to the Leadership Center’s second-year MBA student who best exemplifies the qualities of ethical, responsible and thoughtful leadership, and who has applied these characteristics and practices at the school and in the community. Supported by the generosity of SunTrust Bank, this recognition is considered to be among the most prestigious awards given by the Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business.

“The SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit award provides a medium through which students can focus on leadership development and better prepare themselves to assume executive roles upon graduation,” said Susan A. Bach, director of the Rollins MBA Center for Leadership Development. “We honor students who have demonstrated commitment and leadership that add value to their organizations and community, these skills are critical to success in the workplace and effectiveness in all aspects of life.”

The criteria for these awards are behavioral assessments, participation in leadership programs and coaching, course completion in leadership and communications, and community service. Students who meet the requirements compile a Leadership Portfolio that includes a detailed development plan, written reflections of demonstrated leadership, references, a resumé and future leadership objectives that they have mapped out during the degree program. The entrants are judged by a selection panel of local Orlando business leaders who serve on the Leadership Center’s Advisory Board.
