Conway Dato-on Receives Fulbright Award

Rollins MBA professor to use fellowship to expand research and educational opportunities in social entrepreneurship.

March 28, 2013 - Mary Conway Dato-on, Ph.D., Associate Professor of International Business at Rollins College, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to conduct research, write cases and teach at IPADE Business School in Mexico City, Mexico, during the 2013-2014 academic year, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

Dr. Conway Dato-on will use the Fulbright grant to research the theoretical and managerial overlap of traditional and social entrepreneurship in the Mexican cultural context. Working with IPADE faculty, her research will help fill gaps in the current study of social entrepreneurship in developing economies, most of which has focused on South Asia. She will also teach an MBA seminar on social entrepreneurship at IPADE Business School, which will help expand IPADE’s capacity to incorporate this important concept into its MBA curriculum.

“I am humbled by the receipt of this Fulbright grant and look to the many who have come before me as inspiration,” Dr. Dato-on said. “Becoming a Fulbright scholar has been a lifelong goal for me. As an international scholar this is one of the most prestigious awards from our government. The idea of working in Mexico, with its rich, welcoming culture and researching with my friends and colleagues at IPADE adds a special level of appreciation and dedication. This grant can serve as a turning point for my career.”

Dr. Conway Dato-on is one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in 2013-2014. The program was established more than 60 years ago to fund and support activities that promote mutual understanding and respect between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
